So Very Thankful

Good health is something that is often unnoticed and taken for granted until it is lost. It's so easy to just accept that you'll always feel well or normal. I've been learning recently that I can never just assume that I will always be healthy.

For most of my life, I've been relatively healthy, suffering only from pretty severe allergies, asthma, and mild acid reflux, but generally managing well. Recently, however, I've been dealing with very severe acid reflux and other GERD-related issues. I've lost many nights of sleep and had to call out of work - something I never do. I was getting more and more worried as these issues were not going away and the normal medications/remedies I was using were not providing relief. I knew I had to do something after one particularly bad night with terrible stomach pain where I thought the issue might be gall stones or something worse.

Thankfully, I was able to get to an urgent care facility and went there as soon as I could. I finally was able to receive answers and relief from some of my nightly (and daily) pain. Every nurse and doctor I talked to was so kind and so helpful; each one wanted to help me and find an answer for me. They performed tests, drew blood, and talked to me about all my symptoms, and I appreciate every moment they spent with me.

While in the end the conclusion was that I was having more a more severe version of a current condition, it still was a scary time for me. I am so thankful that it wasn't anything more serious, and that I was able to get special medication that targets my exact condition.

Since that visit, I've thought of those doctors and nurses multiple times and have continually thanked God for them and for the help they were able to give me. Doctors and nurses are so often underappreciated for the long hours of service they give and for the many lives they are able to make better and in some cases, even save.
