Do you struggle to find gifts for preteen and early teenage boys that aren't just the latest video game or electronics? I know I do. With two boys in that age group to shop for, it's hard for me to find a good gift for them that they'll want to keep using or playing with. I don't want to just get them the latest Xbox game; I want to give them something that will keep them active and playing together. When I was given the opportunity to review a product from Toys 'R' Us, I specifically asked for something for my boys. A large box arrived and inside was the Hot Wheels Street Hawk Remote Control Flying Car. This is the perfect gift for boys (and girls) ages 8-14.

Hot Wheels Street Hawk

The Street Hawk is a cross between a RC car and a RC airplane. It is able to race along the ground and then quickly lift off and start flying! It can fly over 200 feet and make complete 360-degree turns. It is really very cool to watch!

Hot Wheels Street Hawk

The Street Hawk is able to be charged and is fully charged in 2-3 hours. The boys were able to use it for 20 minutes straight on a full charge having it constantly racing or in the air. The controls took some getting used to, but once they got the hang of them, it was very easy for them to make the plane do exactly what they wanted. As a car it worked well on the sidewalk, driveway, and street- not so well on the grass, but that's to be expected. It needs 10 feet or so to be able to work up enough speed to lift off.

Hot Wheels Street Hawk

The Street Hawk is almost ready to play right out of the box, which is nice. It needed 6 AA batteries for the controller, which were not included, and the car itself needed to charge for a bit in order to be able to be used. I wish it didn't need quite so many batteries, but they seem to have lasted so far. The car looks and feels a bit flimsy, especially around the wheels, but it is surprisingly durable. The first flights it took had it crashing into our house and tree, but that didn't affect its driving or flying ability at all.

Overall, I think this is a great toy that will have your preteens outside and having fun. I think it would be great to go to a open parking lot or dead end street and fly and race it. It would be even more fun with a friend and a second Street Hawk!

The Hot Wheels Street Hawk Remote Control Flying Car is sold at Toys 'R' Us in stores and online for $49.99. Check it out, and be sure to follow Toys 'R' Us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube!
